Look before you extract
Browse the folder tree and preview text and images right inside the archive. Nothing is written to disk until you say so.
At home on your desktop
On macOS, right-click any file for Compress with Densatum or Extract Here, and drop archives on the Dock icon. On Linux, Densatum appears under “Open with” for every archive type. On Windows, drop archives onto its window.
Extraction that can't hurt you
Never overwrites a file without asking — keep both, skip or replace, once for the whole job. Multi-file archives get their own folder. Path tricks are blocked.

Huge entries preview without loading them whole, free space is checked before extraction, and decompression-bomb images can't blow up memory.

Open the disk image, drag Densatum to Applications, and launch it once so the Finder actions install. Which Mac do you have? Apple menu, About This Mac: “Chip: Apple M…” is Apple Silicon.
macOS · Intel
For Macs whose About This Mac shows “Processor: … Intel”. Same steps: open the disk image and drag Densatum to Applications.
Windows
No installation: portable .zip
The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Linux
Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, Debian 12 and Fedora 42.

Compute the file's SHA-256 with shasum -a 256 <file> on macOS and Linux, or certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256 on Windows, and compare:

Is there a free trial?
Yes: 40 days from the first launch, with every feature and no account. After that, a copy without a key shows a short reminder at launch and its window title reads “evaluation copy” until a key is entered. Nothing is locked; the app relies on you to buy a license if you keep using it.
Who needs a license?
Anyone who keeps using Densatum after the 40-day trial, at home or at work. It's €5 per person, once, and it covers every future version. An organization buys one license per user, or one per shared computer.
Does it send anything anywhere?
No accounts, no telemetry, no crash reports. License keys are verified on your computer against a public key. The only network call is a once-a-day check of this site for a newer version and for revoked license keys, and you can switch it off in Settings.
How does the license key work offline?
Your key is a small signed record. The app checks the signature locally and never contacts a server. Keep the key from your purchase email; it works on every computer you use, whether Mac, Windows or Linux, or on one computer shared by several people.
Why does Windows warn me about the installer?
The Windows installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” the first time. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. You can check the file against the checksum published in the download section.
What does a password protect?
The file contents, with AES-256. File names, sizes and folder structure stay visible in ZIP and 7Z alike — Densatum tells you this right next to the password field. 7Z resists password guessing much better than ZIP.
Does it open RAR5? Can it create RAR files?
It opens every RAR version, RAR5 and the newer RAR7 included, with or without a password. Creating RAR files, no: the format is proprietary and can't be licensed freely.
Refunds and invoices?
Purchases are handled by Stripe (Managed Payments), our reseller of record: they issue the invoice with VAT for your country and handle refunds under their terms.
